Nov 10th meeting - HCGS - John Buza family: PA & NY

The meeting of the Honolulu County Genealogical Society of November 10th,  met at 9 am at the Manoa Gardens housing Community Room, as usual.  Kathy Hudson will give a power point presentation (assisted by Linda Dubee), a biography and family history tale about her mother, Kate, and the Buza family of Pennsylvania and New York.

Martha Reamy presented the story of The Curse of Tecumseh, Chief of the Shawnee Indians of the Ohio.
Martha Reamy
When his brother was killed at the battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, Tecumseh made a prophecy: "Harrison will win next year to be the Great Chief... He will die in his office...I who caused the Sun to darken and Red Men to give up firewater tell you Harrison will die.  And after him, every Great Chief chosen every twenty years thereafter will die.  And when each one dies, let everyone remember the death of our people."     And that prophecy has come true from 1841 death of President Harrison until President Reagan was nearly assassinated, but survived.  Perhaps the curse is broken.
This month we discussed, as a group: "Brick Walls". Members were asked to tell us your latest genealogy problem and we will help you solve it. Internet was available, for those who brought their laptops.
Harriet Hoffman
Harriet Hoffman discussed a brick wall in a family with adoptions, and received many suggestions for helpful ideas.  Others brick walls were discussed.
Lois Durr will be emailing out the first edition of our society newsletter Keauahau that she has produced as editor.  A heartfelt thanks to Jan Williams for singlehandedly producing the newsletter for the last eight years.

The next meeting will be Sunday December 2nd, for the annual scrumptious Christmas Holiday Brunch at Hickam Air Force Base Officers' Club near Pearl Harbor.  Seating will begin at 10 am.  Gifts will be exchanged for everyone who wants to participate.  Approved military base entry for participants is required.

I love genealogy society meetings to help it's members get some ideas to break brick walls. They've been so helpful for my own research.
